LINKS

  • Part of this website's dedication to standards compliancy is that in addition to semantically marking up pages, many links have TITLE attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article)
  • In as much as is possible, links are written to make sense out of context
  • Links to external web sites are followed by an icon ( ) to indicate that the link goes to another web site

IMAGES

  • All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics and placeholder images include null ALT attributes
  • Complex images include a LONGDESC attribute or inline description to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.

VISUAL DESIGN

  • This site uses Cascading Style Sheets for visual layout
  • The first time an abbreviation or an acronym is used in a page, it is identified with either an ABBR tag or an ACRONYM tag respectively. This displays as a dotted or a dashed underline in most visual browsers and will add a question mark to the cursor. When the user places their pointer over an ABBR or an ACRONYM, a tooltip will display the corresponding definition. For example: (WAI)
  • If your browser or browsing device does not support Style Sheets at all, the content of each page is still readable
  • Colour Contrast has been check and Passes WCAG 2.0 level AAA
  • All information conveyed with colour is also available without colour

ZOOM TEXT
This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers. This option can be adjusted by the user, allowing them to change the text size of their browser. For the shortcut method follow these steps:
Mozilla/Firefox, Internet Explorer 7 & 8, Google Chrome, Opera

  • To increase the text size, press and hold Ctrl while pressing +
  • To decrease the text size, press and hold Ctrl while pressing -
  • To reset the text size, press and hold Ctrl while pressing 0 (zero)
